Hygieia

Clean, like the gods intended.

A disk cleaner for macOS, named for the Greek goddess of health. It finds what is safe to remove, says plainly what it is not sure about, and always leaves you a way back.

macOS 14 or later Runs on device No account required to scan

What it does

Ten tools, one sidebar

Smart Scan runs the whole pipeline at once. Everything else is available on its own when you already know what you are looking for.

How it decides

The rules it will not break

A cleaner is only as good as the things it refuses to do. These are enforced in the code, not in the marketing.

Only Safe items arrive ticked

Every finding carries a risk level. Only Safe is ever pre-selected — anything marked Review waits for you to read the path and decide. Whole tools, like Large & Old Files, produce nothing but Review, because those are your own documents rather than regenerable caches.

Cleaning means the Trash

Files are moved to the Trash, not unlinked. If a clean was wrong, the files are still there. The one exception is the File Shredder, which is quarantined at the bottom of the sidebar and says plainly that its work cannot be undone.

Thirty seconds to change your mind

Every clean offers a single Undo for 30 seconds that puts each file back where it came from. It refuses to overwrite anything that has reappeared at the original path in the meantime.

A figure on screen was measured

A zero the app prints looks exactly like a zero it measured, so it never prints one it did not. A scan that has not counted yet says so in words. A folder macOS refused to open is reported as unreadable — never as empty.

Reclaimable means reclaimable

Sizes are the bytes a clean would actually free — allocated, not logical — so a sparse file is not advertised as tens of gigabytes it never occupied. A duplicate group of N files frees N−1 copies, because one always stays.

Never show this again is permanent

Anything you dismiss is suppressed by path across every future scan, not just until the next one.

Privacy

Your files never leave your Mac

Scanning, hashing and photo matching all happen on device. Hygieia makes network calls for exactly two things: verifying a Pro licence, and — only if you opt in during onboarding — sending crash reports with file paths and names scrubbed out.

No file contents, file names or scan results are ever transmitted.

Nothing is sold or shared. Read the full privacy policy.

Free and Pro

What you get without paying

Caches and Developer are free and unlimited. Smart Scan is free for three runs a month. The six review-and-reclaim tools and the File Shredder are Pro, along with the alternative accent colours.

Prices are shown at checkout, in your own currency, before anything is charged. This page does not quote a figure it cannot read from the payment page — the same rule the app follows.
